I come to find I’m afraid of the Dark.
I’m afraid to turn off the lights. I’m scared to turn off the TV, computer, and phone to sit in the dark without shiny objects calling my attention. I’m afraid to close my eyes and enjoy the silence while my own thoughts, pleasant and vicious, come crashing in like the tides hitting the ocean’s shoreline.
Are we able to sit in the dark for ten minutes and listen, or must we turn the lights back on and keep doing?
The dark is scary because it genuinely starts to shed light on us. The darkness helps us because the more we see it, the better our minds can begin to articulate the real world around us. The more we sit in the dark, the more our minds can illuminate truths that can help set us free.
Today I choose to close my eyes for a little longer to see more clearly.
